T’is The Season For Pumpkin Spice
By: Ashley Picco – Tales of Mommyhood
The leaves are turning and the cooler weather has arrived; that brings with it cozy sweaters, warm fires and the smell of pumpkin spice. From Thanksgiving to Halloween, Kanata Central BIA is a one stop shop for both occasions. If you want to get into the spirit of the season, then a trip to Starbucks for a pumpkin spice latte, or a stop at the LCBO to pick up some Baileys Pumpkin Spice is probably a good way to start!
When it comes to a Thanksgiving meal, there are so many options to choose from. This year is going to be a bit different, and huge family gatherings won’t be happening – but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate Thanksgiving with your bubble! You could dine in at one of the many restaurants (Aperitivo, Drama Bar & Grill, Pure Kitchen, Central Bierhouse, Graffiti’s ,Fratelli, 3 Brewers, Crazy Horse and more – be sure to check their hours and make a reservation) located at the Kanata Centrum or Signature Center; prefer to dine at home? You can pick up all the items you need to make your own delicious feast from Loblaws or Farm Boy; you can grab some mini pumpkins for table and porch decorations while you are there! Apple crisp is a favourite of mine, and I love to make it at this time of year. Interested in trying the recipe for your Thanksgiving dessert – you can find it on my blog Tales of Mommyhood. If you don’t want to make a dessert, Baskin Robbins has a cool Turkey cake available for purchase – check to see how much notice you need for ordering. If you are looking for ideas on how to add to your meal, have a look at this interview with the Unrefined Olive owner, and maybe it will help you get creative!
If cooking a big meal isn’t your thing, then Farm Boy has you covered with their Complete Thanksgiving Dinner – choose between ham or turkey and your meal is pre-cooked for you – all you need to do is allow time for reheating and then you can serve and enjoy.
When it comes to Halloween, it’s always been a favourite of ours. Hubby and the kids go all out with the decorations. When they were young, we had some cute little blow up decor, but as they got older we tucked those away and went spookier! Are you looking to add to your Halloween decorations, pick up a costume or some candy? Then Party Mart, Canadian Tire and Walmart are sure to have what you are looking for. Maybe you won’t be handing out candy this year with covid restrictions? Why not pick up a little treat for the special little ghouls in your life at Jojo Coco? It is sure to be a hit.
