When pharmacist Biral Patel noticed a growing gap in personalized patient care, he decided to open a pharmacy where every patient feels heard, supported and comfortable with their pharmacy care. Three years later, I.D.A Kanata Lakes Compounding Pharmacy continues to serve residents in Kanata and surrounding areas.
“I decided to open my own pharmacy in the nearby community where I live,” says Patel. “Just to provide the community a more personalized, relationship-based care,”.
The pharmacy offers compliance packaging to help seniors and others who have difficulty remembering when to take their medications. The team also works with local retirement communities, offering monthly blood pressure clinics, educational seminars, and vaccination clinics, including annual flu shots and COVID-19 vaccinations.

As a compounding pharmacy, they can prepare customized medications that are not commercially available in the form or dosage a patient needs. This can include children’s medications in liquid form, or suppositories, hormone replacement therapies, pain medications, and other customized formulations.
Additionally, pharmacists can assess certain common conditions, such as eye infections and allergies, and prescribe medications when appropriate. For those who may not have a family doctor or cannot wait weeks for an appointment, this service can provide another option for timely care.
“We are a small, friendly community pharmacy here to help all the communities in Kanata and Ottawa. Feel free to come in and ask questions. We don’t rush. We always have that personal relationship with our patients,” says Patel.
