Kanata Farmers’ Market

The Kanata Farmers’ Market has opened up for their third year on May 23rd. It will now be open every Saturday from 9 am until 3 pm until October at 745 Kanata Avenue.

The Farmers’ Market offers a great variety of products produced and sold by locals. They have everything from flowers, vegetables, honey, cheese and more!

Normally there are 12 markets open all over Ottawa but this year the Kanata Farmers’ Market is the only one open due to COVID-19. Ann Marie Rochon, the manager of the market, said this year is definitely different: “Most of the vendors here usually go to markets across the city selling their products,” said Rochon, “so this being the only market open has been hurting all the small local businesses and farmers.”

There are also some restrictions to help protect against COVID-19:

  • Going through only one entrance and exit, only 25 people are allowed in at a time.
  • There are also barriers in front of the stands so there is a 6ft distance between everyone.
  • There are signs put out about social distancing and they are ensuring everyone is following the rules put out by Ottawa Public Health.

The Farmers Market hopes with all the restrictions put in place, and with the support of Ottawa Health in place, that the City of Ottawa will be open to having more markets across Ottawa. In the meantime a big thanks goes to the Kanata Entertainment Centrum for allowing them to open up there and to the community for supporting them.

Please come by to enjoy the market and support our locals. For more information, you can visit www.kanatafarmersmarket.com.
